“We need to act now to prevent a major humanitarian crisis.”
These are the words of parliamentary secretary Lois Brown, who made a major funding announcement on behalf of Canada’s Minister of International Cooperation Julian Fantino. “A severe drought last year, poor harvests and rising food costs have helped contribute to a food crisis in the Sahel region,” Ms. Brown said.
The Careforce “Down to the last grain” appeal is helping provide food for the students who attend the Village of Hope in Burkina Faso and their families. Careforce is also partnering with Roger and Chris Bast to provide pastors in the region food to distribute to those most in need in their area.
This is a great opportunity for those of you who have been thinking of donating but haven’t already. From August 7 to September 30, the government of Canada has promised to match dollar for dollar all funds donated by the Canadian public towards the food crisis. This means that any money you give to the Careforce “Down to the last grain” initiative will result in an equal amount being given by the government.
